We are delighted to announce that one of our founding members has just secured a paid job with Kier Highways – what a super farm trooper!
Ben, who is autistic, came to Rooted & Booted for work experience every Wednesday during his final year at Derwen College where he was studying horticulture. We mentored him on the farm, where learned about the generic requirements of the workplace. We were constantly impressed by his commitment, hard work and desire to learn new things. At the end of his year with us, we strongly recommended him for employment, so we are so pleased to hear that he has pulled it off.
Ben now works 40 hours a week in a stores depot and is really enjoying it. He lives at home with his mum and gets up at 5.30am every day to catch a bus to be at work for 7am. He loves this new lease of life and says: “the best thing about his job is the wages”!
His mum told us: “Ben really loved coming to the farm and his experiences with you gave him the grounding he needed to move forward successfully in his placements at his final vocational college. Together with the detailed and supportive job reference you gave him, this clearly helped him to land this job”.
This is an amazing achievement, that is very well deserved. Ben, you are a tremendous ambassador for Rooted & Booted and we are so proud of you. Keep up the good work.
